Anti Social Behaviour

Dear all,

For info we have done a variety of press interviews today on the anti social behaviour story including Suntalk, Talksport and Radio 5. Paul McKeever will be live tonight on BBC 24 at 7.30pm.

Our line on this as below;

Responding to Denis O'Connor's comments on anti social behaviour, Paul McKeever, Chairman, Police Federation of England and Wales says;

"Denis O'Connor the 'Common Sense Copper' has identified a real problem that needs to be resolved. However, he has identified a symptom of a wider problem; ineffective sanctions in the Criminal Justice System (CJS). If those offenders we identified were dealt with more firmly through effective sanctions we wouldn't be called to deal with them time and again. This is not just a policing issue - it is the responsibility of all agencies in the CJS. It is clear that government policy on anti-social behaviour isn't working and this needs to be urgently addressed."

Best wishes
