Federation response to bureaucracy report

Posted on 25/10/2010

Responding to Jan Berry’s final report on Bureaucracy, Simon Reed, vice-chairman, Police Federation of England and Wales says;

“Bureaucracy has been a problem affecting the service for many years. We are pleased that our call for this matter to be tackled has been addressed by way of Jan Berry’s report, but it is important with so much time and research now given on the matter the government take action not just give lip service to the problem.

“The blight of bureaucracy is not just about forms, it’s about the procedures that officers have to go through. It is imperative that with budget cuts looming we not only maximise the number of officers available for front-line duties but we carefully look at how we most effectively use their skills and specialisms.

“Tackling bureaucracy in the service will not only free up officers to tackle crime but will go along way towards restoring public confidence.”
