Community policing for train stations in Cumbria
Posted on 11/05/2010 by BBC News
Railway stations across Cumbria are to have their own dedicated police teams to help prevent and fight crime. The move comes as British Transport Police (BTP), the national police force for the railway, starts its own version of Neighbourhood Policing. Stations to benefit include Carlisle, Barrow, South Lakeland and Penrith. Anti-social behaviour, trespass, criminal damage and violence are among offences which will be targeted by the new "proactive" form of policing. To mark the scheme's launch, special patrols will travel aboard Carlisle to Lancaster services on Friday. BTP said it was moving its focus from response policing to a more proactive approach.
