A19 in North Yorkshire
Posted on 30/11/2010
The 'In the Loop Extra' which was sent out during week commencing 22nd November 2010 has caused serious concern amongst our members as it stated:
"You may have heard in the media that several forces and police authorities have decided to invoke the use of Regulation A19. A19 provides the ability to require the retirement of officers who have accrued full pension entitlement (normally 30 years’ service), on the grounds of general efficiency. This applies to officers up to and including the rank of chief superintendent (chief officers have different legal arrangements).
The SLT is currently considering the implications of invoking the use of A19. If they choose to proceed, the force will then report to the Police Authority, setting out the requirement to use this power as part of managing the financial situation and overall workforce into next year and beyond.
Similar considerations on the 30+ scheme apply."
