2010 Special Priority Payments
Posted on 24/11/2010 by Mark Botham
North Yorkshire Police Federation has been informed of the decision taken by North Yorkshire Police to reduce the sums paid to officers through the 2010 SPP Scheme from those originally proposed, communicated through ‘In the Loop Extra’, 23rd November 2010.
We know that the reduction in payments will be extremely disappointing for those members entitled to Special Priority Payments, and we cannot support this decision. However, the action taken by North Yorkshire Police this year appears to be in accordance with the Police Negotiating Board Guidance for the operation of SPP schemes.
We also know that other forces in the region have taken similar decisions but will pay only the minimum £500 to qualifying officers under their SPP schemes, in order to make savings necessitated by the Comprehensive Spending Review.
The structure of the SPP scheme, which allows such decisions to be made, is one of the many reasons why the Police Federation has consistently opposed the existence of Special Priority Payments.
This advice is circulated for the information of officers affected by this decision.
